This Little Piggy's First Halloween

Miss Piggy.
Her pumpkin was carved with a "C" for Charlotte!
After quite the crappy previous weekend, it was a happy relief to celebrate Charlotte’s first Halloween. We debated on several different costume choices. Chris was pushing the idea of an astronaut (could that be because the costume would have had “C. Hofmann” embroidered on the front? Hmmm. Who else has those initials?). Me, I loved the idea of a puppy. Still, there was the appeal of dressing Charlotte as a monkey so that we could call her our “chunky monkey.” But we had to be honest with ourselves. What costume best suited Charlotte’s personality? After we came at it from that angle, we couldn’t deny the obvious: Charlotte would be a pig. If you’ve ever heard her eat, you know that she has mastered the pig noises—she snorts and grunts like any good pig, plus there’s her big healthy appetite and willingness to eat just about anything. Best of all? She was still pretty in pink! On Friday, Chris dropped her off at school for a few hours so she could participate in the Halloween parade and general hoopla there. I had to pick her up early to keep up the antibiotics schedule, but I was glad she still got to experience her first Halloween with her school chums. We carved pumpkins, roasted pumpkin seeds, and responded to trick-or-treaters. My favorite trick-or-treater? A little girl dressed up like Cinderella. Chris, not too knowledgeable on Disney princesses, asked her, “And what are you?” She looked up at him, her bottom lip trembling, and she merely replied, “Cold.” All in all, a lovely Halloween. Now, on toward Thanksgiving!
